How sugaring works
Sugaring removes hair with a paste made from sugar, water and lemon juice. The paste is applied against the direction of growth and flicked off with it, so hair comes out cleanly at the root with less breakage, less irritation and fewer ingrown hairs.
Because the paste grips hair and dead skin rather than live skin, it's a gentle alternative to waxing and a good choice for sensitive skin.
Before your appointment
- Let hair grow to at least a quarter of an inch, about two to three weeks after shaving.
- Skip lotion and oil on the area on the day.
- Avoid exfoliating or tanning the area for 48 hours before.
Afterwards
- Avoid heat, saunas, hot tubs and intense exercise for 24 hours.
- Wear loose clothing over freshly sugared areas.
- Start gentle exfoliation after a few days to help prevent ingrown hairs.
